The redeveloped Townsville Hospital has been designed to increase the available range of health services for the local community. The redevelopment is designed to allow for further expansion to meet future demand.

The redevelopment is part of a major network of hospital infrastructure developments to meet the future health care needs of North Queensland.

Construction commenced on the North Block expansion at the end of 2009 and will be completed by the end of 2012.
